Benefits of Joining a Gym August 17, 2009 at 9:57 pm
Hey all! I want to lose some weight again. I have been holding steady for too long now and it's time to start losing. I want to know the benefits of joining a gym. I feel guilty for spending the money because we have a treadmill at home and we really don't have a whole lot of extra cash. I just want some advice on if it's worth cutting back other places to join. THANKS!
Not ready yet??? August 17, 2009 at 9:57 pm
People keep telling me that I must not be ready to "diet" if im not motivated but if thats true then when will I be ready when im over 400 pounds and I need surgery??? Im at 265 I never thought i would EVER weigh this much. Just typing that number makes me feel nauseous and teary eyed. If i dont get help soon I feel I may be unhappy forever.
FRUSTRATED WITH MYSELF (little rant) August 17, 2009 at 9:54 pm

Coming here reading success stories make me happy but not enough to push me. It just makes me doubt myself and think Ill never do it. My life is finally in order. Now if only i could get my eatiing on track and stop binging. Today I did decent. Im just not sure what else to do. Someone help me. What did you do to start out??? |
My New Job August 17, 2009 at 9:33 pm
After networking and being patient for almost three years, I finally got a job at Starbucks. I have wanted the chance to get into this company for so long and to see if it will be a good fit for me for the long-term. Right now I will be a Barista (coffee making partner) but in time I really hope to get a store of my own. Today I started my training. There will be lots of tasting of coffee and pastry over the next three weeks. I will have to count those calories and workout extra hard. I'm determine to not let this new job ruin my weight loss like the convenience store did. I just wanted to share my wonderful news! :woohoo: I love coffee!!! :coffee::coffee2:
I think I'm a head case August 17, 2009 at 9:17 pm
I think I might be getting the weight loss heebie-jeebies. So far, I'm down 23 pounds, and I'm also just incredibly more fit than I was two months ago. Came home from vacation, where I'd been walking 4 hilly miles per day and went back to my lap swim routine-- I could really notice a difference. When I started two months ago, I had to alternate crawl laps with other strokes to rest. Now I can do the whole workout in crawl. Yesterday, I tried on my "tight" pants, the twenty-twos, and they fit so well I wore them out of the house. This should all be good, but today I was really fighting the head case demons. All of a sudden, I thought I looked fat and started to feel discouraged that I'm not any slimmer than I was a couple of years ago-- I put on about twenty pounds in the last year and a half. Now those are gone, but now I'm remembering that I never felt good about myself at this weight, and I started to remember how fat and gross I used to feel in my twenty-twos. So far, none of this has translated into changing my eating, but I'm worried. This is the kind of negative thinking that I've lived with for so many years. It scares me.
Questions about The Sonoma Diet August 17, 2009 at 9:10 pm
Hi All. I am ending my first day one the first wave and I was wondering if anyone who is or has gone through the first wave might be willing to answer a few questions? I was sick all weekend before starting The Sonoma Diet, but today I had a headache from mid-morning on and I was wondering if this is normal and will go away soon? I was a little more tired but I figured that was from being sick this weekend. I really wanted my Hubby and I to start as I am fed up with my body and all that junk that we had been eating, so we started today. I have had my 8-8 ounce glasses of water and only my 2 cups of black coffee, and 1 cup caffenine free tea. I am use to having a lot more coffee, but I am trying to follow the wave to the letter. If anyone is willing to share what they have or are going through I would really appreciate it. I enjoyed the new foods today, trying the new foods and recipes and eating healthier. Have a wonderful evening! Blessings~Linda
i'm learning to crochet (any crocheters or knitters out there?) August 17, 2009 at 9:05 pm
i'm perfecting my chain making abilities. It's silly that something so small, a chain, can make me feel so calm when i'm doing it. my roommate is teaching me, perhaps tomorrow i'll try a single crochet stitch. :D Can anyone else tell me about their attempts and successes at crocheting or knitting?
And nobody knows it but me. August 17, 2009 at 8:47 pm
So aside from my boyfriend, no one in my personal life really knows that I'm trying to lose weight. This past weekend, the boo & I went out to eat with his parents, and I haven't seen them since I lost the 12 lbs. Now, I know that most of that was water weight and I probably wont see a difference until 25 or 30 lbs, but I guess I just hope my face would look thinner or something. As we are walking in, my boyfriend's mom asks HIM, "Are you losing weight???" Sheeeeeeessshh. I didn't let it get me too down. Just thought it was kind of ironic. How much weight did you guys lose before people in your life started noticing??
First 100 lbs gone August 17, 2009 at 7:49 pm
The first picture was taken at the beginning of the year. I was my starting weight here of 425 lbs. The second picture was taken last week after 100 lbs gone at 325. You don't notice the difference yourself (except for your clothes falling off) until you see pictures side by side. The first picture has TGH (The Gorgeous Husband) in it.

Anyone else had success with 80-10-10 or other raw low-fat vegan diets? August 17, 2009 at 7:32 pm
I don't know if anyone is interested in this, but I couldn't find any other posts about it and I'm so excited that I just had to share! About 5 years ago I lost 75 lbs through more traditional diet/exercise. The good news is that I've kept it off - the bad is that I cannot seem to loose the last 25lbs. I have been really interested in more whole food, vegan diets (influenced by Dr. John McDougall, Dr. Esselstyn, Dr. Joel Fuhrman, Neal Bernard, and T. Colin Campbell's The China Study) over the last year or so and have been trying to eat low-fat vegan. My biggest challenge has been the more refined grain products, particularly breads and cereals, which I really have a hard time controlling my portions (and they are fairly calorie-dense, especially compared to fruits/vegis/beans/whole grains). And the dreaded sweet tooth - I had no problem giving up meat, cheese, dairy and eggs - unless they are in a dessert!!!! I had read Doug Graham's "80-10-10" book which describes a diet made up of mostly sweet fruits, with some tender greens and some non-sweet fruits such as tomatoes/cucumbers but thought it was kind of extreme. I then read some blogs including Carlene Jone's (who lost more than 100lbs on a lowfat raw vegan plan) and thought I would give it a try. I have been doing the plan for 2 weeks with the one exception - coffee, which I am trying to give up, and I'm down to one small cup in the morning - but I have to say, I am SHOCKED by how easy this is. I am eating basically every time I get hungry, which is usually 3-4 meals/day, and eating until I'm full, with monomeals of sweet fruit only for the first 2-3 meals of the day, then a sweet fruit plus a salad make up of baby greens and non-sweet fruit at dinner. I have steadily lost .5-1 pound per day - I know some of it must be water, but I have to admit - it is still pretty awesome to watch the scale steadily decrease, even through that TOM. In fact, of my 25lb to loose - I'm down 7.5 as of this morning - woohoo!:D I also feel like my cravings, particularly for sweets/candy, have DRAMATICALLY decreased. I have really not had any urge to eat off-plan, which is very unusual for me and has been my downfall with previous programs, when I would eat very well for a few days and then have a day where I gave into my cravings and binged on something. BTW - I have read on some webpages discussions about "detox" symtpoms when people start a low-fat raw vegan diet, but I have to say I haven't had any. Anyone else done this and had this kind of success??? I'm really curious what other people's experiences have been like.
activity points, use all week or same day? August 17, 2009 at 6:56 pm
Hi all. I just joined WW and the activity points weren't really touched on when I met with the leader. Let's say that I earn 3 activity points today, do I have to eat them today, or are they like flex points and can be used throughout the week?
Nobody recognized me August 17, 2009 at 6:46 pm
I went to a wedding on Saturday and there were people there that I had grown up with, aunts and uncles that saw me ever since I was like--born! I said Hi to all of them tagging along behind my sister and they said Hi back but kind of looked at me weird...and I just thought it was kind of rude, like why are these people who I knew since I was young giving me this weird look as if they've never seen me before? then most of them asked my sister "Who's that girl that came with you?" My sister said it was ME. Another one asked "Who's that girl with you? is she your friend?" and my sister cleared that up too and said it was me and they all just looked at me and couldn't believe it and kept saying no way, because it didn't look anything like me. Basically nobody recognized me and they said I looked great and lost a lot of weight. Last time they saw me was when I was 210 lbs. Suddenly I realized why they looked at me that way! but when they knew it was me, they smiled these big smiles and realized the familiarity in my eyes. I just really loved this feeling. Made me realize how far I've come. I was completely anonymous! :) lol I think I actually feel proud of myself. And that's something I've always wanted to feel.
Anyone watch the Tyra Banks show? August 17, 2009 at 6:41 pm
Hey ladies, I used to watch this show quite a bit at the beginning of summer but stopped because of work. I recently tuned in again and remembered something that used to upset me SO much when I would watch. Tyra promotes self-confidence and loving your body and yourself right? So why is it that the first commercial on when they take a break is for Lipozene?("Do you have EXCESS BODY FAT?", "Body fat is unattractive", etc) Does this bother anyone else?

*Sigh* Here we go..! August 17, 2009 at 5:42 pm
Hi everyone! I found this site last week, when I started planning my journey into weight watchers, and have been lurking b/c once I make this post I am not turning back. I hope to come here for support and motivation b/c I am soooooo tired of tight clothes, and I am working on getting into nursing school so I think I need to set a good example by getting healthy. I am 22 years old, and 188.6 pounds according to the scale this morning. Ugh, I don't like that scale. I've only ever been on a "diet" once, and that was summer 2008. All I did was count my calories and occasionally exercise, although I was babysitting two very active children ages 4 and 2 1/2. In the course of the 2 1/2 months I watched them I lost around 15 pounds. Of course by Christmas it was all back again. I hope weight watchers will teach me how to eat healthy, although I mainly eat good. I prefer vegetables/fruit over meat/chips/sweets any day. My problem is I am a bored eater, and with my very inactive summer.. eh.. well.. you get it. I officially started my journey today.. and I'm not off to the best start. I was out with a friend and we stopped for McDonalds. Oops. I only ate 5 chicken nuggets and a small fry, but had a large sweet tea which was almost as many points as the food. I have 6 points left for dinner. I think I can manage. Anyway, I was just stopping in. I look forward to getting to know everyone. Kasey
Please help me understand Ketosis August 17, 2009 at 5:41 pm
I'm pretty sure it means burning fat? But I was confused because someone mentioned going out of ketosis for taking a bite of something off plan. You can go off for just taking a bite? Yikes! :?:
Need some accountability August 17, 2009 at 4:43 pm
After much research and for my own reasons, I have decided that I MUST not weigh myself daily or even weekly. I do my measurements on the 18th of each month, so tomorrow I will weigh-in and record both. I will then get rid of the scale. I will weigh on the 1st and 18th only. I'm really wanting to give this a try for a month and see if it doesn't help me deal with some of the "mental games" I'm struggling with. So, tomorrow, would someone please ask me if I have done this? :D TIA!
Sore Calves August 17, 2009 at 4:40 pm
The past few days my calves have been very sore. They are even tender to the touch. The only extra exercise I have added the past week is free stepping for 30 minutes with Wii Fit. Could this have caused it?
Wow you guys are impressive August 17, 2009 at 4:33 pm

two pounds down August 17, 2009 at 4:30 pm
It's a start...
Gotta love little sisters... August 17, 2009 at 4:04 pm
Hey guys- I've been away for a while but working on things away from 3FC... ups and downs like everyone. So I'm back at it now and my younger sister is kinda driving me batty. She's been ranting at me lately about my weightloss and calorie counting. She told me she didn't understand why I was punishing myself for what I did to my body... I tried to tell her that it's not a punishment but she just kept on lecturing me about being healthy. Does that make sense?! We just got back from a week long vacation this weekend and I came back 1 lb. heavier (which I could probably attribute to TOM)--- she came back 6 lbs. heavier and not fitting in her shorts. She actually had the nerve to tell people I know that she gained weight on vacation because of me... because I brought so much food with. (Ridiculous!) She said I brought so much food that she was forced to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner each day... She's a year and a half younger than me... 5'7" and been gaining weight. She's currently at 200 and is unhappy about it. I think maybe she is just trying to deter me because of her own insecurities. She's constantly making remarks about how it's shocking that I only weigh 30 more pounds than her (because I look so much bigger than her.) I live with her so I can't avoid her, but I'm just trying to find ways to ignore her. Any advise would be lovely. Thanks!

Finally decided to post something August 17, 2009 at 3:53 pm
Hi, I just wanted to take a minute and finally post. I spend a good amount of time just looking around the forum here and seeing how people do it and how they stick to it. I read the goal section when I am feeling that lack of motivation. I started this at 360 I'm currently down to 302 my goal is 200 mayb 185 we will see so I still have a long way to go. I have changed what I eat although I do slip up sometimes. I am usually int he gym five days a week 3 days of circuit training and 2 days of cardio. My name is Nate I'm from Michigan, but I live in VA now. I'm 24 years old and my weight has been a problem most of my life. I never knew what or how to eat I just sort of ate what I wanted. Well here I am 24 and closer to 400 then 300 well was when I started this. I have two kids and a wife and I would like to be around for them as long as I can be. I quit smoking in July of 2008 and am still smoke free so that helped alot there. I then decided after going to the doctor and she told me my cholesterol is off the chart (at least everything else was normal) that I should be doing something about my weight. So here I am and trying to do it the best I know how. If anyone has any tips on eating that is the thing I find the hardest what hsould I eat and what not. Like is bread ok is it not those kind of things. From what I have seen everyone seems to be awesome here. I have rambled on long enough just thought I would finally say hello.
I had the most awesome lunch evar! Plus my experience with Shirataki Noodles. August 17, 2009 at 3:50 pm
I made my own low cal version of Chicken & Vegetable Alfredo. I went to Whole Foods and got some shirataki tofu noodles to try, I have heard mixed results from them and I wanted my own opinion. ;) I live an hour away so I went ahead and picked up 2 pkgs of spaghetti noodles and 2 pkgs of fettuccine noodles, just in case I like them. Here's my recipe: 8 oz boneless skinless chicken breast cubed 170 g (2 cups) Frozen Crinkle cut carrots 170 g frozen broccoli florets in bite sized pieces 170 g fresh yellow summer squash sliced 100 g fresh (3/4 cup) green peppers sliced 15 g (1 tbsp) minced garlic 1 cup fat free milk 2 wedges garlic & herb light Laughing Cow Cheese 15 g (4 T) parmesan cheese 1 tsp Butter Buds Italian spices (mine are already mixed in a container) Salt Pepper Water 1. In a non stick skillet sprayed with Canola Pam, place the cubed chicken in the skillet and sprinkle with salt, pepper and italian spices. Saute the chicken till the chicken is done. Remove chicken from skillet and set aside. Rinse skillet out and wipe with paper towel. 2. Spray skillet with pam and add the carrots, squash and green pepper and saute for a couple of minutes, add about 1/4 cup of water and steam till the water evaporates. Then add the broccoli and stir all the veggies together. Sprinkle the veggies with butter buds, salt, pepper and italian spices. Add a bit more water to steam the broccoli until the water evaporates and then remove the veggies and set aside. Rinse out the skillet and wipe with a paper towel. 3. Spray Skillet with pam, add the cup of milk and the garlic and bring to a simmer. Then add the laughing cow cheese and the parmesan cheese. Take a flat spatula and smash the lumps out of the cheese until the sauce is smooth. After the sauce becomes smooth add all the veggies and the chicken back into the skillet. Toss everything together. Total Calories for the whole recipe is only 645 calories. I ate half of it. But I tossed mine with shirataki noodles. I ate the whole bag of noodles which is 40 calories. My whole lunch was 362.5 calories. It was a lot of food! I'll probably only eat 1/4 of the chicken & veggies next time. The shirataki noodles.... Best as I can describe, the texture is similar to those lean cuisine pasta meals. You know how the noodles are kinda tough and slightly rubbery? I smelled the funky smell when I opened the bag and prayed that the noodles wouldn't taste like that after I boiled them. And they didn't, It made me happy! I prepared them just like the bag says to prepare them. I'll definitely have this meal again and I look forward to having the shirataki noodles with a different sauce next time.

Pedometer and cheating August 17, 2009 at 3:35 pm

need opinions... weighing after illness August 17, 2009 at 3:31 pm
so two weeks ago my weight stayed the same (180.8), then went up two lb last week ( 182.8). i think that was water weight tho b/c i was weighing every morning and 1.5 (181) of it went away in 3 days. yesterday, i had the stomach flu. tomorrow is weigh day and i cant decide if i want to or not? i know that the scale will show a drop (last night i stepped on it just for the heck of it and my fully clothed night weight was only a pound over my weight 2 weeks ago (181.8). so heres my issue. i could really use the boost in morale of seeing the numbers drop, but i also know this could lead to disappointment in the next few weeks because a lot of it will be water weight that i will gain right back. opinions?
New Girl, little bit nervous August 17, 2009 at 3:26 pm
Hello, facebook has just shown me how big I have gotten. So I googled weight loss support and came across her. I am really determined that this is the last time I start this journey without finishing it I am , gulp, 240 pounds...heavier than my dad. I am 25 and have a big family Christmas coming up, it is 20 weeks till Christmas, haven spoke to a doctor (yes I am doing this correctly now) and he said a good and healthy target was 55 pounds. I will be 185 pounds for Christmas... and I hope to have the support off this place along the way. I know I can't have a tracker for a while so I will make sure I keep a tracker until then. I can't wait to meet you all K
Fall Semester anyone? August 17, 2009 at 2:52 pm
Anyone attending school/college? Well I didnt take any summer classes and I'll be back at it come sept school,work,family.......I must admitt I am a little nervour/worried because with my hectic schedule it means that I am going to have to fit my workouts in most mornings.......I dont mind getting up early because I have to but the actually thought of working out is another story. My classes are in the AM starting at 9-9:30 so that means that on most days Ill have to get to the gym in between 7-9 then go to class then work. I can workout at night but it wont be likely because Ill use that time to study and family time. I think I got use to working out as much as I want and when I want since I havent taken summer classes and maybe it spoiled me, anyone else attend college/some type of school?
Little Miss Grumpy August 17, 2009 at 1:16 pm
I've always been a pretty even tempered, even upbeat person, but ever since I started working out and counting calories, I've felt comparatively miserable. I find that I smile less, I feel less social, my temper is shorter, and I'm prone to snapping at my husband (poor guy, he's being so supportive). This is usually strongest in the two hours before my next meal and it makes me feel like some sort of junkie suffering withdrawal from her food drugs. This bothers me and sometimes makes me wonder if what I'm doing is worth it. Has anyone else experienced this? How did you deal with it?
It's not food. It's ME. August 17, 2009 at 12:54 pm
I am a bit hesitant to post this. I hope it helps not only me, but someone else as well. It is a bit long, but hopefully worth the read. I have tried to "diet" my way thin many times in my life, only to fail each and every time and regain the weight. And though I have only lost 23 pounds so far in my final journey to being healthy, I have gained knowledge about myself that I did not have before. I had a lot of knowledge before regarding how to actually lose weight. But the missing piece, which I only realized this time around, was knowledge about my SELF. I read a lot of posts in these forums. I don't respond to all, but I read *a lot*. Over and over again I see people struggling to stay afloat on their eating plan. I see people who have fallen and are finding it hard to get back on. I see people with stress in their lives that find it difficult to stay on their eating plan at those times. I see people who eat their feelings. And, I see people with medical issues who have to deal with those along with trying to lose excess weight. The one thing that all of these seem to have in common, is that it's a struggle - some days on plan, some days not. Some days wanting to give up, some days perfectly happy. Why is this? What really makes us grab that donut? Is it just because we haven't removed it from our house? Is it because of the food industry making things so tempting? Is it because there are fast food places on every street corner? Is it because we are stressed or emotional? Is it our environment? Is it because of the co-worker that keeps bringing in the tempting food? We need to stop playing the blame game. Let's get real here. Does the food leap off the plate and stuff itself into our mouths? No. Does the food call to us to eat it? No. Does the local McDonalds employee yank us off the street and stuff a Big Mac in our mouth? No. Do restaurants force us to stop there and eat piles of unhealthy food? No. Do advertisements leap out of the television and shove a candy bar in our mouth? No. Does the convenience store open the bag of chips, hold us down, and shove them into our mouth? No. So what is it then? This is the single most important thing I have learned in the last two months about myself - and possibly in my life. It is what keeps me on plan and will keep me on plan for life. It's not the food. It's not emotions. It's not the food industry or the co-worker or the friend who likes to eat out. It's ME. It's my MIND. It's all the excuses I have ever made for why I eat. It's completely MENTAL. It has always been mental and will always be mental. Unless you have a medical condition (and there are those!) that makes it nearly impossible to lose weight, it's YOU.. you and your mind. Your thoughts each and every day. It's the mental beating you give yourself when you go off plan. It's the mental beating you still give yourself when you are on plan and are disappointed by the mirror, or the scale, or the tape measure. To lose weight and keep it off, I need to master my MIND. My thought processes. I need to develop a mind of steel. I need to recognize that it is folly to blame someone or something else for my food issues. At the end of the day, *I* am the one who puts food into my mouth. No one does it for me. I am in complete control. I make the decisions. I have no use for excuses anymore. All of the above (except for medical conditions) are excuses. I am not saying I have no empathy for struggles. I have had many of them, and still have some. But now I am mastering my mind. I daily replace negative thoughts with positive ones. I listen to my internal conversation (yes, we converse with ourselves all day long!). I blast out the negative and replace with positive. As a result, my resolve is even greater than day 1. When stress or another struggle presents itself I ask "Who is in control here?" No thing, event or person is my master. *I* am my own master. *I* am in control. And so are YOU. YOU make the decisions on how to deal with things. We should not let anything take our power away from us... especially food. One cannot expect perfection, but if we examine our mental selves, recognize our decisions as our OWN, and take responsibility for our own actions.. we are growing and changing by leaps and bounds. We are conquering not only our weight & health, but also our minds. No more negative thoughts that intrude on our well-being and our power over ourselves. Recognize it, examine it, OWN it, and change it.
I need to keep some perspective.... August 17, 2009 at 12:51 pm
Ok I just finished the first 4 weeks of having my GoWearFit. On Friday I was so happy with how things had been going. I was down 5.8 lbs! (My plan was 1 lb per week so that is great!) Saturday night by dh was out of town for a job and I really need to get out of the house so I met some girlfriends downtown for a bit of food, drink and dancing. I felt like I was so good. I ordered food I could track (crab cakes and flatbread with hummus) we all shared it. I only had 1 martini then switched to water. The end count for the day was I burned 2360 and consumed 2196 so I had a deficit of 164. Not a great deficit for weight loss but I should maintain. I didn't eat more than I consumed but the next morning I was up 1.2 lbs! So I thought, that's fine its just water...its fine. Then yesterday I went to a volleyball party at a friends house. We literally played volleyball from 3pm until it was to dark to see the ball with short breaks for water and 30 for dinner. I tracked everything again. I burned 3329, I consumed 2696 with a deficit of 624. Within that I did have 2 glasses of a rum punch and 1 bottle of corona light. Today I am up another lb. So I am up 2.2 lbs from friday! I am trying really hard not to think of it as real weight...but I am so frustrated and I kind of want to cry. Candice

Grains as breading August 17, 2009 at 12:07 pm
Does anyone have experience or information on using things like bulgar or quinoa as breading for eggplant, chicken, etc.?
Hello from a long time lurker! August 17, 2009 at 12:05 pm
I've been eavesdropping on successes and threads here for YEARS, and more than any other board - this one seems to have the best success rate and warmest population! So, there's a teensy bit about me in my bio. In short, I've been all over the place weight-wise. I was at my lightest during my first two years of college. I don't know what the actual number was, but I'd guess somewhere between 125-135. That was ten years ago, and the weight has slowly crept back! I was able to shed about 20 lbs for my wedding in May of 2009, but I went absolutely crazy on my Honeymoon and after. Of course, nearly all of it came back. This time I'm in it for the change, not for the loss. I did supreme low carb before the wedding, but I realized there's no way for me to forever banish carbs from my life. I love beer too much. So, I've decided to reduce my carb intake (but not eliminate anything), pay attention to the calories, drink more water and start exercising more. My first goal is 163, which will put me out of the obese category (according to the BMI, of course). That word was a pretty big eye-opener. Even though I know BMI is sort of BS, it still seemed like an appropriate first goal. Here's to health, and I can't wait to join in the fun here at 3fc! NB
Looking For a Specific Kind of Weight Loss Book.... August 17, 2009 at 11:48 am
I'm looking for suggestions on a specific kind of weight loss book. I don't want a book that is going to outline a plan for me, I know what I have to do and what I have to eat. I know how to do this. What I want is a book that takes a psychological approach to the whole weight loss journey. I feel that if I can conquer this mentally I could succeed. I'm an emotional person to begin with and if I could get ahold of that and understand myself better maybe it would help?

i still liked who i was/am August 19, 2009 at 12:34 am
i really am not appreciating the things people have been saying 2 me lately. people are starting to notice my weight loss and have been telling me 'I look good now' and talking about how bad I used to look. I honestly am one of those people that when i look in the mirror I have never seen myself as huge (sometimes 2 my own detriment). I think I look okay...Anyway I'm going to keep on working on losing weight but I just am really offended. I liked myself 30 pounds ago and I like how I look now. Anybody else go through this? Last time when i got to this point ---and I was getting compliments left and right I ended up getting comfortable and going off plan and was like forget it - what's the point of losing the pounds, I like how I look. But now I'm really trying to stay focused on just getting healthy. I know I must sound really weird to you all but I just can't imagine myself as thin.

Finally going to shed my extra poundage! August 18, 2009 at 11:09 pm
Hi! My name's Kim. I'm been overweight my whole life... well at least I have always thought I was fat. I have lost control of my weight and it's just gone up and up lately. I've worked on trying to accept myself the past couple of years and love myself inside and out. I do love myself finally but now I want to show myself I love myself by taking care of me! I have started jogging, drinking lots of water, eating less, and eating less junk! I don't really care if I'm ever super thin, I just want to feel healthy and look healthy. I hope to gain support here, read about other people's journeys, get inspired, and help keep myself on track. Good luck in everyone's journey to get healthy, it's nice to meet you all! :D

Hello from Southern Colorado! August 18, 2009 at 10:50 pm
Hi all! I just found this website this week, and have had a great time just lurking about so I decided to join! My journey has been a tough one (isn't it always?) I was skinny until I moved in with my Hubby (about 7 years ago) and then I gained over 100 pounds. I topped out about 263 a few years ago, lost 50 pounds and then got pregnant. Since then I gained back to about 237, and this past January I started trying to lose weight again. I got down to 200 and slacked off in June and got back up to 215(ish) and now I'm starting again! This is the third try, so you know what they say! Hopefully this third time is a charm (and not my third strike!) My husband is an over the road truck driver, and so my daughter and I stay at home in Colorado. I'm going back to school to be a nurse, and I am passionate about photography. I look forward to meeting many of you!

Hello! Nice to Meet You! August 18, 2009 at 10:08 pm
I am 33 years old (34 in just a few short weeks!) and I am about a hundred pounds overweight. I am basically just starting this journey so I need all of the support and accountability that you could provide. My first and current goal is not actually a weight loss goal but a habitual gym routine. My job is such that I can usually sneak away for a couple of hours during the day to go to the gym so I have absolutely no excuses. So far I have been to the gym 4 days in a row. My short term goal is to go 28 days in a row (because word on the street is that it takes 28 days to develop a habit). I am realistic about the fact that I can't go to the gym every day for the rest of my life but I also don't think that this particular 28 day goal is that much of a commitment in the big scheme of things. Anyway, so it is nice to meet all of you and thank you you in advance for all of your help!
Thai Style Chicken & Rice Noodles Recipe?! August 18, 2009 at 10:06 pm
I love the smart one of Thai Style Chicken & Rice Noodles! Does anyone have a recipe for this? It'd be great if it was a weight watchers recipe, but even if it's not a ww recipe, but something that tastes similar? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I love this stuff! :)
Using a Treadmill August 18, 2009 at 9:46 pm
I've searched and havent found a thread about this yet, if you find one you can post the link instead of answering but anyways...i was just wondering if the treadmill is really all that great with losing weight. ive heard a lot of times that it doesnt do very much and it just hurts your knees. im worried about this because once winter comes and im not able to go outside to the track to workout i might stop losing weight. also, does anyone know things i can do after the treadmill such as body sculpting techniques or anything. and how long should i stay on the treadmill to get results?
Does anyone Blog August 18, 2009 at 9:38 pm
Hey so since starting this diet last Monday I am obsessed with blogging. It is so great and easy to track what you are eating. I post everyday and have been taking pictures of my food. It is great to do instead of a journal. It is so much fun. If you do post your blogs so I can check them out. Check out my blog if you like. I had to add spaces because it wouldn't let me add a link. stefe1202.word press. com
working out question August 18, 2009 at 9:35 pm
The last 2 weeks I've been sticking pretty well to my WW points, drinking my water, and working out at the gym. I go about 3-4 times a week, doing cardio for 30 minutes, and some light weight training. I also swim on some days as a nice cool down. I've only lost about 2 pounds... I've heard when you first start working out, your body has to get used it, or that I am building muscle mass at first instead of losing weight. I'm thrilled with the idea of gaining muscle, but I would like to lose a little more weight... Any ideas?
Brett Favre and others that need to sit down August 18, 2009 at 9:23 pm
Who do you think needs to retire so as not to ruin the legacy that they would otherwise have? Of course I'm starting with Brett Favre. Let it go. Another was Michael Jordan. I was so TIRED of his royal airness trying to come back again and again.

| ... I came across a site not long ago that has a full list of foods with the points value and even a points calculator! I had looked into weight watchers before, but it's just so expensive with all of the books and junk you have to buy, plus the membership fee every month! So to anyone interested in trying weight watchers, here's the link! IT'S FREE!! Give it a shot because you won't be disappointed! http://www.meganandjack.com/ww_points.htm Good luck everyone!! | Tell me what you love about yourself!! August 18, 2009 at 7:44 pm |
*We did this exercise in a psychology class I took my first year of college and it's really good for the self esteem!* We're beautiful ladies no matter what we weigh! We just have to learn to appreciate ourselves a pound at a time!! I may not be at my goal weight and I'm a far cry from skinny, but I have to appreciate what I do see when I look in the mirror. So tell me, what are some of the things you love about yourself?? Beautiful eyes, a smile to die for, curves in places that are 100% female?? Regardless of our shape, color, or size we are women and we are beautiful!! Best of luck with your weight loss goals! Kayla
Weird side effects to diet and exercise... sharing August 18, 2009 at 7:32 pm
I noticed the last month or so, since I've been workingout and dieting, I don't get as hot as I normally do. In fact, DH likes the therm. between 68-72 and prior to workout I preferred it in this range as well but now I've noticed that if the temp dips below 72, I'm freezing!! Its so strange and I haven't found any articles indicating why this might be. Just wondering if anyone else has noticed a similar side effect or have any bizzare ones of their own to share
Quinoa August 18, 2009 at 7:28 pm
Can someone tell me the calorie content and nutritional stats for quinoa? What I'm reading varies, and some sources say it has like 600+ calories per cup. Is this possible? I've been eating it some in lieu of rice but if it's crazy high calories I guess I'm gonna have to stop...
Can't belive it... was screwed over by LAWL August 18, 2009 at 7:25 pm
Hey all, Soo I have to say I LOVE the LAWL plan.. I have had great success with it.. I took break to have baby.. when I came back they screwed me over.. long story short, they told me to come pick up my bars(which they were only giving me 1/2 that I had left and paid for!) so when I show up to pick up(when the told me to!) the place was completely closed down with sign on door saying they did not pay rent so they were evicted.. Sooo not cool! I emailed and emailed the girl I was talking to, She NEVER wrote back after that. Just sucks they would do this..
What Are Your Reasons for Losing Weight? August 18, 2009 at 7:12 pm
Last night I started making a list of reasons why I wanted to lose weight and I started to wonder what are the reasons some of you have for losing weight and getting healthy. My list is long but some of them are: 1. To shop at any store I want because I know they'll have my size. 2. Being fit enough to walk up a flight of stairs without gasping for breath. 3. To be healthy enough to have children some day. 4. To no longer be the fat sidekick. 5. To no longer hear "You have such a great personality" (I know this is true) 6. To be the best version of myself 7. To wake up in the morning and no longer think about my weight 8. So my weight will no longer be my excuse for not doing something 9. To finally see something through to the end 10. To be my own success story
Anyone have a Total Gym?? August 18, 2009 at 7:11 pm
I'm just browsing the internet in search for the perfect piece of exercise equipment. I found a Total Gym 1100 on WalMart.com but I would like to know if it works or not before I purchase it. Has anyone had and any experience with this machine??
And so it begins... August 18, 2009 at 7:05 pm
I spent a number of years being overweight and not being all that concerned about it, or I may have been ignoring it. :D But it's now impacting my health and it's time to deal with it. I'm familiar with nutrition in regards to maintaining a healthy level of cholesterol, but I've backslid the past few years and it's gone up again. Now I have to make a concerted effort to add exercise to my lifestyle. I'm 5' 3" and 233 pounds. My GP claims I should lose 150 of it. Well, I'm not going to focus on the number itself, but I do need to lose a considerable amount to be healthier. I'm sure I'm going to find a lot of information!

A good doctor visit. August 18, 2009 at 5:32 pm
So I went to the doctor today and found out that... I no longer have prediabetes :) My fasting glucose level went from 114 to 72 ^-^ I am so happy. I've been exercising (walking and riding the bike) for a few months now, and she said that exercise could make it drop like that. WOW. I'm so happy. I was terrified I was going to have diabetes at such a young age :/ Who would've thought walking my dogs and riding my bike would change me from being on the high-end of prediabetes, to the perfect glucose level ^-^ YES I've also lost 23 lbs and have kept it off. I have a lot more to lose, but it feels great to just lose it and keep it off. It gives me hope for the future. :carrot:
? For MRCers on Stabilization-Warn. this may annoy those not on Stabilization :) August 18, 2009 at 5:30 pm
Hey all! Im on week 4 of stabilization--just got back all the good foods, including SQUASH!!! Yippee!!! I hit goal pounds wise, and ended up going WAY past my goal for BF. Started at 28% (when measured as a normal person, 24% when measured as an athlete) and now i am down to 18.2% BF as Normal, and 14.2% as an athlete!! YIKES. My original "goal" was only 23%. Considering i AM an athlete, i feel the athlete measurement is prob more accurate. Since my BF has become so low im already having issues with menstruation being abnormal ( ive already had 2 periods this month, and its only the 18th!!??? I know, i know, OB/GYN question for sure. My real question is, how long did you all continue to lose on stabilization?? Last week alone i dropped 2 full pounds of BF and almost 2% !!! I am HAPPY at my weight!! Geez.....If i loose any more BF i will cease to be a functioning female ! (i believe 12% is the barest of minimum for a woman to be,and then only serious athletes). I dont mean to sound like one of those woman who whine about being SKINNY. .. . . MRC has changed my life and how i see myself and the results are phenominal. I dont want to drop the program however, and start eating "normally" becuz i might undo everything i worked so hard for, so im definitely going to see this through to the end, and work the program properly, but i am starting to get concerned...... Any thoughts? Still taking 3-4 HNS a day, merely becuz it ups my total calories for the day which is good, and i work out so excessively that i need the extra protein...
Politics in the hot tub ugh August 18, 2009 at 5:27 pm
Today I was in the hot tub relaxing at my gym after a hard workout. This group of five people get in and start talking very loudly to each other across the hot tub about Obama this and politics that. I got so annoyed I had to get out. First of all, don't talk loudly in the hot tub, it is for relaxing! I talk to my husband a little bit but in a quiet voice when he is sitting right next to me. Second of all, politics is not relaxing. I grew up in a family where my Dad, who is a great guy, used to get so mad involving politics he would scream at the television. I can't be around people talking about politics because of this, it just stresses me out and upsets me! Alright I just had to vent! I thought this was so rude!
Greeting from Brazil :) August 18, 2009 at 5:18 pm
So, my name is Marcela and I'm from Brazil. I weight 73kg (160 pounds), which wouldn't be that much, if I wasn't so terribly short. *g* I've been trying to lose weight on and off for about 4 years now. I never lost any significant amount of weight because I get bored of dieting very easily and I used to be a horrible cook. My parents couldn't eat healthy if someone paid them a million dollars and since they're both chefs (!) I always ended up choosing their yummy full of calories meal than my pathetic salad. But at the beginning of the year I made a promise to myself: I'd learn to cook a decent meal. And with the help of food blogs I think I'm no longer an atrocity in the kitchen. I've also been soda-free for about 6 months now and am slowly eating more fruit and veggies. I'm still on a quest to eat more veggies, but hey, at this time last year I had no idea I could enjoy chickpeas, squash, kale... But throughout the whole year I haven't exercised even once. And that's just ridiculous. I'm tired of running to catch a bus and having to take 5 minutes to catch my breath or getting all sore just for cleaning the house. So I've decided to do something about it. Gyms don't do it for me, so I've decided to use this really nice park I have right next to my house. And the gods decided to grace me and show me a really cheap-*** bike while I was on Wal-Mart *g* I bought it and it has been raining cats and dogs ever since because, hey, that's how the universe works. But I'm planning on biking for 45min 5 days a week... ...And I wrote a treaty. That's me, always tl;dr. I have no idea how I found this website, but it's great. I'm hoping that between this and Fitday I'll be able to reach my goal.
Natural Diuretic, do you use any ? August 18, 2009 at 5:15 pm
I'm holding a lot of fluid lately... Anyone know some 'foods' or safe supplements that are good for this ? I've ruled out the obvious, like tom and sodium intake.. I've increased water due to the heat.. but I can feel it in my fingers and feet...this is new for me.. but not sure, I think before I lost some weight it all blended in...:chin: Does anyone have any ideas ?
WOW 200 calories makes so much difference (thanks onderchic and others!) August 18, 2009 at 5:12 pm
so recently i asked for opinions on calorie intake. i had been aiming for 1000 to 1100, but most days ending up around 950. onederchic, and others recommended that i bump up to 1200. i just have to say THANK YOU. you wouldnt think 2-300 calories would make a huge difference, but it REALLY has. i used to eat 3 small meals and then like a skinny cow at night. i was hungry all the time and literally counted down minutes when i got like an hour away from my next meal. with the extra calories, ive been able to add two snacks to my schedule and it has helped SO much. when i first started dieting i did 5 small meals a day to avoid getting "starving", but as i dropped my calories, i cut that out within the last month. BAD idea. im not fixating on food any more and thinking about when i get to eat next. even if this does slow the scale, i think its worth it. thanks so much!!
Its been a while August 18, 2009 at 5:05 pm
I'm not exactly new but I havent been on here since April. Things have been so busy that I havent had time to focus on me. I had my 26th birthday at the beginning of the month and made a commitment to focus on myself. Since then, I'm down 12 pounds. I have a long way to go but I know I can do it. Plus these support forums are great motivation to keep going (even when you dont want to). Anywho...I'm glad to be back. :)
Help! Getting ready for Halloween August 18, 2009 at 3:24 pm
Usually, DH and I cozy up on the couch and watch Ghost Hunters live while dining on steak, sweet potatoes and wine. We also hand out candy to the few kids that venture down our lonely road. GH, though, is actually kind of boring live, so this year we're going to do an old horror movie fest. So, any suggestions? I'm thinking something along the lines of "The Creature From the Black Lagoon" and "The Bride of Frankenstein". What are your favorite old (or new) Halloween-esque movies? Also, what do you adults without kiddos do for Halloween?
Anybody using Wii for excercise? August 18, 2009 at 2:40 pm
I know it is just like any other expensive exercise equipment, once you buy it you have to get off the couch and use it! Still just wondering if anyone had tried it out?

FINALLY going in the right direction! August 18, 2009 at 2:23 pm
Alright so it's been about 4 weeks since I ended my relationship with my BF of almost 2 years. Wow, what a difference. It's only now that I realize how unhappy I really was. Since I ended the relationship I've lost 7lbs. All of this is simply the change in eating and drinking - as in not eating out with him all the time, making healthier choices at home and work and basically not drinking. To be very honest I was eating and drinking my feelings of unhappiness for the last 6 months of the relationship at least and while I know I wasn't blind to what I was doing - I actively ignored it. I haven't even been exercising yet! (I've been thinking about it but the heat has been beating me out... I'm a cold weather girl stuck in a heat wave with no AC :dizzy: it's a motivation killer for me. It really goes to show how badly I ate and how much I drank while I was with him if I've shed 7lbs in under a month without really putting much effort into it other than not drinking and working on getting some portion and structure back under control with food. Since the break up I haven't really eaten anything bad and I think the only alcohol I've had was 1 social evening out with friends, 1 girls night in and 1 work event and it was all very minimal. I'm starting to feel better, look better, I'm happier in a million different ways from my butt to my bank account. The best part - I don't want any crap food or booze... which is making it much easier. I suppose I guess I removed my trigger! We ate and drank way too much together and I on my own (we lived separately) ate and drank my way through knowing the relationship was bad. A weight has been lifted! Anyway for now I've been doing the light breakfast/coffee early, some fruit mid morning, some sort of frozen meal (lean cuisine/smart ones) with a big side of a steamed green veggie around 1pm, a roughly 200 calorie snack higher in protein around 4pm, a light yogurt on my 6pm train home and a light dinner when I get home around 7:30 with smaller portions and a lot of veggies since it's late. So I'm eating pretty regularly throughout the day and am balancing out between 1500 & 1800 calories each day and feel great and am not hungry. As for drinks - I'm plowing down iced tea (home brewed, unsweetened), water, seltzer and the occasional diet coke. Just taking out the regular burgers and beer that we were having all the time and putting some structure back into my daily food plan is making all the difference. Next week I'm adding back in the gym 3 days a week and one night of hot yoga to start. The week after that I have some business travel which I'd normally worry about but this time, I'm actually not worried at all! Along with all of that I feel like I'm smiling for real for the first time in a long time. I'm going out, seeing friends, doing things, making plans and I'm a lot less depressed and much funner to be around. Even better, we are still friends and it's fine and not awkward at all. Alright that's it... I just wanted to share my good news now that I finally have some!:carrot:
YOU: diet...August/September Chatter.... August 18, 2009 at 1:34 pm
Hi there everyone, new person here! Sorry if I posted against rules or anything as I didn't see a August/September thread and was wanting to see how y'all are doing. So..how are ya doing? What do you eat for YOAD snacks? Breakfast ideas? How about lunches? Dinner? What do you eat while on the go when you need grab & go foods?
Birthday week begins August 18, 2009 at 1:31 pm
Well, tomorrow's my birthday and the festivities start tonight with my roomie making dinner for myself, my sister and a friend. The menu is bourbon old fashioneds, BBQ babyback ribs, corn on the cob, baked potatoes and biscuits. Dessert is a Grand Marnier angelfood cake with Grand Marnier glaze topped with Grand Marnier sauce. Then tomorrow I'm having lunch with my two sisters, Thursday one of my sisters and I are going to some small towns to walk around and have lunch and stop for frozen custard, Friday is lunch with my Mom. Saturday I'm back to normal eating. Heaven help me, I'm going to need to work HARD at the gym this week to keep the scale from moving upwards! LOL But as many of you chickies pointed out recently, I'm blessed to have alot of people wanting to celebrate my birthday with me so I'm going to enjoy this week.:D
I actually started crying... August 18, 2009 at 1:25 pm

New here with questions........ August 18, 2009 at 1:23 pm
Hi everyone! I'm new and am so happy to find boards for YOAD!! Are there any threads for listing what you eat each day? How about grocery store finds..all YOAD approved of course? I've been following YOAD for about two years now and still struggling with weight issues..the ups and downs. My main problem is eating in restaurants. It's so hard to find healthy foods in restaurants and even the ones that appear to be healthy, have hidden bad ingredients or ways of cooking. I know because no matter how hard I try to eat sensibly in restaurants, I always seem to gain 2 lbs back over night. Frustrating as my husband and I eat out a lot! Anyway, it's nice to meet all of you and I hope we can encourage each other to stay on track for there is nothing more healthy than following YOAD. :)
I feel full! August 18, 2009 at 1:00 pm
Something just struck me. I just finished lunch (grilled chicken, carrots, and green beans) and I feel full. Full and I have eaten just 603 calories today. There have been so many days where I would still be hungry after eating 2000 calories. Sometimes I am still amazed at what a difference the types of food I eat make, not the amount of food but the type of food. I am just going to have to save my apple for a mid-afternoon snack, too full to eat it now. Isn't life good?
Confident enough for seconds! August 18, 2009 at 12:29 pm
I went to a colleague's mother's funeral today and was asked back to the tea afterwards. As is my practice, I had what I wanted, just tiny amounts - 1 sausage; 1 tiny, smaller than my finger, spring roll; 1 small piece of chicken breast; 1 tiny fishcake; 1 half buttered scone. The scone was absolutely TDF - so I went back and had another. Not only was it delicious too, I was so pleased that I've now hit a weight/size where I can feel 'normal' around public food, that I can go back for 'seconds' without believing people are thinking, what a pig. I know that the weight I am - still 40lbs over my upper healthy limit - is a weight at which many people my height gasp in horror and start their weightloss journey: but it's still a good place for me!
Happy Birthday Aneleh And Nightengaleshane !!!!!!!!!! August 18, 2009 at 12:25 pm
Wheeeeeeeee!! Have a great day, ladies :D :carrot: :cb: :hug:
What unhealthy things have you NOT done in a while? August 18, 2009 at 12:20 pm
I haven't eaten an entire meal of fast food on my way home for work and then cooked and eaten another whole meal to eat with my husband. I haven't purchased a pint of B&J at the gas station, taken a plastic spoon from the soup counter, and stopped at a random parking lot to eat the entire thing before driving the rest of the way home. I haven't lied to myself by intentionally under estimating serving sizes. I haven't had to clean out my car of empty candy wrappers, Krispy Kream bags, and fast food refuse. For these accomplishments I am very happy :)
How do I add a ticker? August 18, 2009 at 11:39 am
I've created one but I can't figure out how to add it? Since I'm new here do I have to wait until I've been here for a while? Thanks! Sharyn
Got to get this weight off! August 18, 2009 at 10:56 am
I've always struggled but now I'm at my heaviest and I hate it! I have started making some great changes this past month. I have started walking every day and when I first started, I could barely walk a mile. I even had to keep stopping to catch my breath. Now I'm up to walking four miles comfortably most days. I usually average about 5 days a week. Now I'm trying to get my diet in check. Thought I'd need some extra support so I found this site. I've been on others before that aren't very active and so I thought I'd give this one a try. My diet of choice is low carbing. About 10 years ago, I discovered the low carb life style and lost about 50 lbs. at that time. I'm convinced it's the only thing that really works for me. I do carry alot of weight in my belly and have looked into other plans but I actually do best, when I'm just incorporating ideas from different plans and pretty much do my own thing. I try to stay at no more than 45 carbs a day and I'm trying to stick to more of a whole foods diet (no processed). Well, I guess I went on enough. It's good to be here!:) Sharyn
